Houston has traded Ryan Anderson and De'Anthony Melton to Phoenix for Marquese Chriss and Brandon Knight, league source tells ESPN
Anderson will be the Suns starting power forward, and front office will continue to pursue trade scenarios to bring on a starting-caliber point guard before start of season
Couple of thoughts on the PHX/HOU trade:
1. 2 month audition for Marquese Chriss who has a $4.1M team option for 19-20 that Houston must exercise by Oct. 31.
2. Brandon Knight was an X factor in PHX for me based on the glaring hole at PG. Could help HOU if he returns healthy
3. The Suns now have 2 second rd. picks (Melton/Okobo) plus the non-guaranteed contract of Isaiah Canaan competing for major minutes at PG.
4. The Knight $15.6M vs. Anderson $21.6M contract in 19-20 is a more manageable contract to move next summer if needed
5. What type of contract does Melton get? Suns will be over the cap and only have the $4.5M room ML/max 2 years. The bulk of 2nd rd. picks have signed contracts for 2 years +. PHX could waive S. Harrison and R. Holmes and create enough room to sign Melton to a contract of 3 yrs
Oklahoma City will see their tax bill drop from $93.2M to $73.8M by using the stretch provision on Kyle Singler. The Thunder will incur a $999K cap hit over the next five seasons on Singler and would receive a minor set-off if the forward signs with another team. The Thunder benefit based on the ability of using the 2019-20 season that was non-guaranteed as part of the stretch provision. With the Carmelo Anthony trade to Atlanta and now the Singler waiver, Oklahoma City has saved $89.5M in salary and luxury tax since July 15
Kyle Singler is the lone and likely only player that the waive/stretch provision will apply to before the Fri. Aug. 31 deadline. 10 players were waived and stretched last summer
The current standings for the 8 teams in the luxury tax: 1) OKC-$73.75M 2) GSW- $44.70M 3) TOR- $34.50M 4) HOU- $20.44M 5) WAS- $18.32M 6) POR- $12.58M 7) BOS- $6.03M and 8) MIA- $4.86M. The 22 teams below the tax currently project to receive $4.88M in distribution money. That number is a projection and will increase or decrease by the end of the regular season. Last season, 26 teams received $2.21M

ESPN reporting with @ramonashelburne: In buyout with Lakers, Luol Deng walked away from $7.5M on the $36.8M left on his contract. With waive and stretch provision, Lakers have cleared $38M in salary cap space in 2019 free agency
